Arakawa River is large river. It’s 173 km long, river basin is 2,940 square meter. It’s flowing to pacific ocean through Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture.
This is Goshikizakuraohashi Bridge located Adachi-Ku Tokyo, Japan. “Goshikizakura” means “Five colors Sakura”.

This is old postcard c1920s – 1930s. There were five colors Sakura along Arakawa River.

These Sakura trees were planted in 1886.
Because various kind of Sakura were planted, here was so colorful.
Famous Sakura trees at Potomac Park, Washington D.C, USA wee sent from here by Yukio Ozaki (Mayor of Tokyo) in 1912.
But in 1947 Goshikizakura were destroyed by air pollution and construction.
In 1981 Sakura was given back from Potomac Park.
And now they are growing some places at Arakawa River side.
Sakura is also seen near Gishikizakuraohashi bridge.
I love bridges. And I have wanted to take photo of Goshikizakuraohashi. But the best shot for this bridge is with Sakura.
So I have waited Sakura season.
This day was not good weather and windy.
But contrast of man made construction and Sakura was beautiful.

Bridge design itself is also beautiful.
This bridge was prized The Japan Society of Civil Engineers Tanaka Prize in 2002. Part of illumination light’s power is getting from vibration of passing cars. This is trial for ecology.

There are large residence opposite side of river.

Whole of Sakura tree.

This bridge is part of Shuto Expressway Central Circular Route. Expressway is along the river.
Kohoku Junction is famous photogenic place. I introduce it in later article.

From under the bridge. Beautiful line.

Goshikizakuraohashi is expressway. Local road is located parallel. Its name is Kohokubashi Bridge. I’ll introduce it later too.

In calm day, reflection is beautiful. But this day was not.
I have to visit here again.
